Do you want to enhance your cheekbones, jawline, or nose without going under the knife?

Then, contouring and highlighting are your new best friends. These makeup techniques go hand in hand to add dimension and depth to your features by enhancing your natural facial structure.

Here’s how to contour and highlight the most common face shapes:

Oval Face Shape

An oval face shape is longer than it is wide. The forehead and jaw are about the same width. The jawline and hairline are slightly rounded, while the cheekbones are high and prominent.

  • Contour
    • Contour along the hairline and blend towards the middle of the forehead.
    • Contour below the cheekbones from your ears to the middle of your cheeks. Blend it downwards.
    • Contour along the jawline.
    • This will create the illusion of a smaller forehead, more defined cheekbones, and a sculpted jawline.
  • Highlight
    • Highlight the center of the forehead.
    • Highlight under the eyes.
    • Highlight the center of the chin.
    • This will draw attention to the center of your face, brighten the eyes, and create the illusion of a more pointed chin.

    • Highlight the center of the chin.
    • This will brighten the eyes and create the illusion of a taller forehead and a more pointed chin.

A square face shape is a face with almost equal length and width. The forehead is broad, the jawline strong and angular, and the cheekbones high and prominent.

  • Contour
    • Contour along the hairline.
    • Contour below the cheekbones and blend inwards towards the lips.
    • Contour along the jawline.
    • This will create the illusion of a smaller forehead, more defined cheekbones, and a more sculpted jawline.

    • Highlight under the eyes.
    • Highlight the center of the chin.
    • This will brighten your eyes and create the illusion of a taller forehead and a more pointed chin.

A heart-shaped face gives the face a triangular shape with its broad forehead, slimmer chin, high and prominent cheekbones, and pointed jawline.

  • Contour
    • Contour along the temples.
    • Contour slightly below the cheekbones and blend inwards towards the lips.
    • Contour along the jawline.
    • This will create an illusion of a slimmer face shape, more defined cheekbones, and a more sculpted jawline.
  • Highlight
